Needful Things (The painful process of abstraction)

Abstraction
For this exercise, the image i chose to distill is that of JVC CD player at home and it is represented by Figure 1. As seen from below, Figure 2 is a close representation of the actual JVC CD player. In Figure 3, the JVC logo is removed. The stage in this abstraction process where the image lost its specific identity and communicates a generic meaning is shown at Figure 4. After that stage, Figure 5 and 6 could represent different things to different people. For instance, some people said that Figure 6 looks like an ipod.
The final symbol is actually Figure 4 from above. At a glance, people would look that the symbol represents a home CD player.

This is a rather hard assignment because just the process of choosing which image to distill gave me a huge headache.
